AAA Credit Screening Services is now an E-Verify employer agent and can run I-9 verifications on behalf of employers as part of the employment background check process.

What is I-9 Verification?

"Form I-9 is used for verifying the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment in the United States. All U.S. employers must ensure proper completion of Form I-9 for each individual they hire for employment in the United States. This includes citizens and noncitizens."

Why is I-9 Verification Important?

Employers are required by law to verify the identity and employment eligibility of their employees. Companies that fail to do so can be found in violation and held liable under civil and criminal penalties. Employers are required to maintain the original I-9 forms for all current employees (and for 3 years from the date of hire or 1 year after former employees leave, whichever is longer) in case they are called for inspection.

Employers that do not maintain proper I-9 forms may be fined for violations in maintaining records. Employers that are knowingly hiring and continuing to employ ineligible workers can be fined and barred from federal contracts and government benefits.

• Penalties for failing to produce I-9 forms range from $110 to $1,100 per violation.
• Penalties for knowingly hiring and continuing to employ ineligible workers range from $375 to $16,000 per violation.

What do I need to provide to start running I-9 Verifications?

We will need the following information from clients to get signed up to start running I-9 verifications:

• Company name

• Full physical address

• Mailing address if different from physical address

• Employer ID (EIN)

• Total number of employees

• Total Employer Sites

• NIACS code

• Company point of contact (full name and e-mail address)
